Provident Bank has been connecting individuals and businesses with life’s opportunities since 1888.
Founded in Spring Valley, New York, Provident Bank today stands as one of the leading regional financial institutions serving Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Ulster and Putnam Counties in New York as well as Bergen County, New Jersey under the Towncenter Bank name.
Over the years, we have cultivated a rich history of which we are truly proud. During the “Great Depression”, for example, Provident Bank was the only bank in the area that did not have to close its doors and continued to serve customers through one of the most financially-challenging times in American history.
More recently, Provident Bank has earned a well-deserved reputation as an innovator in customer convenience, combining high quality, personalized service with state-of-the art technology. We stand as:
- The first Rockland County bank to offer full-day Saturday banking hours in 1991; we added Sunday hours in 1994. Today, Provident Bank has more branches with Sunday hours than any bank in the Hudson Valley.
- The first bank in Rockland County to open a supermarket branch in Pearl River, bringing banking convenience directly into the heart of consumer daily activities.
- A leader in bringing banking technology to the communities we serve, in the mid-1990s, the bank introduced bank-by-phone and ATMs; in the late 1990s, Internet Banking.
Provident Bank also has achieved impressive growth through both mergers and acquisitions as well as de Novo branch openings. In 1962, the bank merged with Orangetown Saving and Loan Association of Sparkill. In 1990, we merged with First Federal Savings of Suffern. In 2002, we acquired the National Bank of Florida and then, two years later, The Ellenville National Bank and Warwick Community Bancorp.
With this growth, Provident Bank has established itself a strong alternative to money center banks. An independent, full-service community bank now headquartered in Montebello, we offer the same services as many our larger competitors with local decision making and personalized service to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
Maybe that is why, in independent surveys, we’re rated “excellent” by our customers more often than any of our competitors. This is yet another part of our present-day heritage of which we are truly proud.
